My work is a collection of ceramic forms that contain paintings of abstract allegories and sometimes inner monologues on their surfaces- I find these small fragments of narratives to be insightfully romantic and worthy of space. Asymmetry in my forms, the organic surface of pinching and illustrations of people, places, and things from my life catalog’s and contemplates my relationship with time and space. I also enjoy making direct references to iconic works of art and past artists while recontextualizing them into my own narrative, filtered through my experiences.
I pull a significant amount of my inspiration from paintings, specifically the movements of impressionism, abstract expressionism and mysticism. Along with the organic forms I create a whimsical surface by using slip as paint. Brush strokes and color are important to my work, capturing the gesture my hands make through space while conveying an abstract ides is my goal. By referencing past artists and their works I hope to add depth and historical context to my ceramics.
