"The Thirst for Giggle Water: Prohibition in the St. Croix Valley" Exhibit

Join the debate between the wets and drys, bootleggers and lawmen, and learn how the residents of the St. Croix Valley survived the great dry spell of America’s “Noble Experiment” at the exhibit “The Thirst for Giggle Water: Prohibition in the St. Croix Valley” open Monday through Friday 8:30-4:00pm and Saturday 9:00-12:00pm at the Washington County Historic Courthouse.

The exhibit includes artifacts from the Prohibition area, such as an original moonshine still, 1920s era victrola, a speakeasy display, original 1920’s flapper dress, Washington County jail registers, brewing equipment and local stories or making moonshine, evading federal agents and so much more! The first two novels of local author Phil Peterson’s “Northern Moon” trilogy are also available for purchase.

Tours are FREE! Donations towards the Historic Courthouse Restoration Fund are appreciated. Self-guided tours of the building, including the exhibit, courtroom and 1900s county jail are available from 9:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday and 9:00am-12:00pm on Saturday. Guided tours are available at 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm Monday-Friday and 10:45am on Saturday.
