The Minnesota Transportation Museum is an up and coming museum located in the historic Jackson Street Roundhouse (originally built in 1907 by James J. Hill as a train maintenance facility) right outside of downtown St. Paul. The building has recently been restored and is now a fully functioning train restoration shop and family-friendly museum. Our feature exhibits at the museum include historic trains to explore and walk through, a working turntable, a live blacksmith forge with demonstrations, a diesel train simulator, tours of the train restoration shop, a model train representing Minnesota landscape and history (in progress), gift shop, and real train rides (15 minutes rides in St. Paul and full 90-minute rides through the St. Croix River Valley rides in the summer out of our Osceola Depot). Not only do we host a fun and historical museum outing for families and kids, our unique space and vintage buses are used for other events such as birthday parties, weddings and receptions, corporate events, photography, theater events (Ghost Train will likely be the next production this spring), book signings and history presentations!
