Prior to retiring from the Fed. Gov’t. in 1999, Dennis held senior investigative positions with the Food & Drug Admin., and Consumer Product Safety Commission, in Minneapolis, New York, Chicago, and Green Bay. In addition to serving as the first FDA Agent in Green Bay, he was also appointed to special assignments in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
Dennis and his wife, Daryl, have been residents of the Prescott area since 1985. They were both among the original volunteers at the GRRVLC when it opened in 2001. He was instrumental in the construction (although not the placement) of the chimney swift towers in Freedom Park and the old middle school.
Dennis is a volunteer at Carpenter Nature Center, located across the St. Croix River from Prescott. He works on special projects at CNC and has been an active member of their Bird Banding team for over 25 years.
In 2008, Dennis was appointed to the Wisconsin Mississippi River Parkway Commission by Gov. James Doyle. Since then, he has been re-appointed to successive four-year terms by Gov. Scott Walker. Dennis has been involved with a number of projects in support of the Great River Road National Scenic Byway. Most recently, he established the Monarch Butterfly Project along the Great River Road, a program designed to increase the monarch butterfly population in Wisconsin.
