Playing With Yarn: Color & Form

Playing With Yarn: Color & Form

Presented by Buttermilk Falls Folk School and Retreat Center at Philadelphia Community Farm

Spend the morning exploring natural dyeing, and then in the afternoon, learn basic and intermediate knitting techniques using previously dyed yarns.

We will gather materials for two dye pots, and create colors from nature for future projects. Information for continued dyeing will be discussed and handouts available.

After a lunch break (bring your own or pay extra fee for a provided lunch), we will turn to knitting techniques using yarns previously dyed with a range of natural dyes. For beginning knitters, emphasis will be on the basics of casting on, knit stitch, purl stitch, and casting off to create a hand-knit dishcloth. For more experienced knitters, the emphasis will be on optional knitting in the round and stranded color work to create a pair of arm warmers. Each participant will go home with a finished (or near finished) project and 2 ounces of hand dyed yarn.
