Winter Constellations

Winter Constellations

Presented by Washington County Parks at Lake Elmo Park Reserve

Get to know constellations like The Big Bear, Orion the Hunter, Gemini the Twins, Taurus the Bull, and some of the great stories behind them. The program will begin inside of the Nordic Center for a presentation on the skies, following an outdoor experience to view giant telescopes that will be aimed to view star clusters, galaxies, and more. Participants also get a handout package with user-friendly star maps and constellation charts, apps, websites, a telescope-buying guide, and more!

Mike Lynch is a retired WCCO meteorologist and has been hosting star watch programs and teaching astronomy classes since 1972. He also writes a weekly stargazing column for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and is the author of the book “Stars, a Month by Month Tour of the Constellations.”  Even if it’s cloudy, participants should learn a lot and have a great time!

There will be a short presentation inside of the Nordic Center. Please dress to be outdoors for the majority of the program.
