Native American Flintknapping with James Tom

Native American Flintknapping with James Tom

Presented by Stillwater Native American Parent Advisory Committee at Stillwater Public Library

Stillwater NAPAC invites everyone to participate in a fun afternoon of hands-on learning of traditional Native American flintknapping led by James Tom, Choctaw. Hear about the historical and cultural significance of fintknapping to indigenous people and try your hand at making an arrowhead or spear point. Although it is nearly a lost art, flintknapping is a life skill that has been used by Native people to make survival tools for thousands of years. James will also bring samples of his work for everyone to view. Stillwater NAPAC’s monthly Family Presentations are FREE and open to anyone who is interested in learning more about Native American history and culture. Please bring your family and plan to stay for the entire presentation (the fun stuff is at the end)!
