Build your own Showshoes!! (In-Person)

Build your own Showshoes!! (In-Person)

Presented by Marine Mills Folk School at Marine Mills Folk School

In this two-day 16 hour class (Saturday and Sunday) we will be building snowshoes that will last for generations.

Registration deadline: October 1

Alert: this class requires each participant to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.  Do not register for this class if you are not fully vaccinated.

Your experienced guide during this adventure will be Peta Barrett, owner of Women’s Wilderness Discovery based out of Ely, MN, where she emphasizes teamwork can build confidence, strengthen courage, and cultivate leadership qualities in women and girls.

Teaching respect for the land and the gear used in wilderness travel is inherent to the wilderness ethic “Leave No Trace.” She has made and taught countless snowshoe classes.

Your snowshoes will be made of wood in the traditional Ojibwe style, which is more adaptable to different snow conditions than more modern snowshoes.

After the class, students will be varnishing their snowshoes at home.

This can be an intergenerational class:  Kids 12-18 can take the class with an adult (the adult must be present during the entire class). If both members of the ‘team’ want to take home snowshoes, both will need register.   Otherwise the adult and teen can decide to make one pair of snowshoes together.

Admission Info

Materials for your snowshoes costs $120 and instruction is $180 for this two day class.  Meets both Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 5.
