St. Croix Ballet Presents Coppelia

Presented by St. Croix Ballet at Unknown

Coppélia, a comedic ballet, is the story about a clever young girl named Swanilda, her fiancé Franz, a beautiful mechanical doll Coppélia, and an eccentric toymaker, Dr. Coppelius, who dreams of making a doll come to life. Franz believes Coppélia to be the beautiful daughter of the toymaker. Swanilda catches him throwing kisses to Coppélia, and when the opportunity presents itself she enters the house of Dr. Coppelius to confront her rival. When she learns that Coppélia is actually a doll that belongs to Dr. Coppelius, she decides to impersonate the doll in order to win back the love of Franz. Chaos ensues but soon Swanilda and Franz make up and all is forgiven. They are reunited and the village rejoices in celebration at their union! Coppélia, the best-known comedy ballet, was composed by Léo Delibes and originally choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon. St. Croix Ballet’s version of Coppélia is being directed by Susan Hovey.
