In The Galleries: June 24 – July 31, Reception: Friday, June 24, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Gallery One: E.W. Ross – “Ambiguity is embedded in my work. The paintings, drawings, and etchings are essentially naturalistic fictions that strive for underlying meaning an perhaps even truths within an esthetic whole. The work emerges through a multi-layered process that incorporates imagination, source materials, observation, persistence and even joy.”
Galleries Two & Three: Stephen J. Gates, David W. Raven, Jeffrey S. Thornton – “For many of us, certain events may only come around once in a lifetime. Crossing Paths represents this – three artists who have known each other for over 35 years finally exhibiting together. They all met at the School of Associated Arts in St. Paul, MN where instructor David W. Raven and students Jeffrey S. Thornton, and Stephen J. Gates formed the bond they share today. Memories of their time there together have stayed with them, influencing and contributing to who they are today. They all have similar visions, yet interpret and differ in their outcomes. But one thing holds true in all three; art is in their souls.”
Overlook Gallery: Jeff Lohaus – “I aim to make visual art that embodies my love of form with my experiences, memories and feelings about the world. Traveling through six continents, working as a jack of many trades, and pursuing formal studies ranging from philosophy to engineering to fine art has helped me develop a broad and eclectic perspective on the human experience.”
Commons Gallery: Lunation – “The curiosity that sparked Lunation: 29 days of darkness and light is about the relationship of humans to the cosmos and specificaly what it means to be female and experience the rhythm of the lunar sycle. Artist Emily Hoisington invited 28 other artists to join her in creating a page for this book. Each artist made a print that reflects their interpretation of this theme.”
