Giving Voice- EmpowerSurvivors 2016 is a conference specifically designed for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and those that support survivors that is being held on November 5, 2016 at the Grand Banquet Hall located at 301 2nd Street South, Stillwater, MN. EmpowerSurvivors believes that by coming together as a  survivor community we can enable survivors to be their best advocates. As a community of survivors we can learn about childhood sexual abuse, its effects, how to heal, and find local resources that will aid us on our healing journeys. It is our hope that this will become an annual event bringing adults that were abused as children together to be supported in a safe space. Abuse is never the fault of the child and together we can become a survivor community and family that finds support on our healing journeys.

Whether you are a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, a supporter of a survivor, a non-profit that advocates for education on childhood abuse, an educator, therapist, clergy member or anyone that supports “giving voice” to the epedemic of childhood sexual abuse this is for you. It is a conference that empowers the individual to learn more about childhood sexual abuse, how childhood sexual abuse affects the child into adulthood, how we can find healing, and what we can do as a community family to shine light on this epedemic that effects 1 out of 4 girls and 1 out of 6 boys by the age of 18 years.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Matthew Sandusky. Matthew Sandusky is the son of pedophile Penn State Coach Jerry Sandusky. Matthew looked to his adoptive father to be his caregiver and father and instead was sexually abused by him . Ninety-three percent of childhood sexual abuse is perpetrated by a person the child knows and trusts and this was the case of Mathew. Matthew will take us through his journey of abuse, healing and advocating. Matthew. once a victim, is now using this experience to advocate for children everywhere, provide therapy to survivors and run his foundation Peaceful Hearts. Matthew will also have his book Undaunted – Breaking My Silence To Overcome The Silence of Childhood Sexual Abuse on hand to purchase.

Along with Matthew Sandusky we will have speakers from Cornerstone Advocacy Service, and vending tables that will include local therapy and counseling services, peer support group information, local author, fitness and health personel.

Come join us this year to “Give Voice” and bring together a community of survivors and those that support suvivors and ending childhood sexual abuse.
