The Story of the Northfield Raid

The Story of the Northfield Raid

Presented by Washington County Historical Society at Unknown

Hayes Scriven, Executive Director of the Northfield Historical Society visits the Warden’s House to discuss the infamous attempted bank robbery perpetrated by the James-Younger Gang.

In September of 1876, the Missouri-based gang comprised of Frank and Jesse James; Cole, Jim and Bob Younger; and several lesser-famous desperados rode into Northfield, MN to rob the First National Bank of that city.  The attempt quickly turned the normally quiet rural downtown into a war-zone that left four dead bodies laying in the dust.

During the program, Scriven will describe every bullet fired and every dollar swiped in Minnesota’s most famous Wild West heist.
