The Thirst for Giggle Water - Prohibition in the St. Croix Valley Exhibit Grand Opening

Public invited to a brand new history exhibit debuting at the Historic Courthouse on Saturday, June 4, 2016!

The Thirst for Giggle Water – Prohibition in the St. Croix Valley

Join the debate between the wets and drys, bootleggers and lawmen, and learn how the residents of the St. Croix Valley survived the great dry spell of America’s “Noble Experiment” at the grand opening of “The Thirst for Giggle Water” 5-8 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Washington County Historic Courthouse.

The event will feature live roaring 20’s music performed by Dirty Romance Novels, Carol Gross of the Manes & Tails Harness Club highlighting a Budweiser six-horse hitch model replica in the exhibit from 4 to 5 p.m., a 1920s car on display from 4 to 7 p.m., and author Phil Peterson will be presenting, “A Glimpse of Prohibition’s Northern Moonshine”  at 6 p.m. in the courtroom followed by a book signing and free book giveaways for the release of  “Northern Moon Shadows,” the second book of his Northern Moon Trilogy.

Visitors will also be able to celebrate the end of Prohibition by the repeal of the 18th Amendment and sample Joseph Wolf Brewing Co. beer and Chicago Mix popcorn from Candyland from 6 to 8 p.m. in the courtroom  while supplies last.

The exhibit includes artifacts from the Prohibition era, a speakeasy display, an original 1920s flapper dress, 1920s era Victrola, Washington County jail registers, brewing equipment, and local stories of making moonshine, evading federal agents and so much more!

A suggested donation of $10 per person will be directed to the Historic Courthouse restoration fund.

The event is sponsored by Washington County, Joseph Wolf Brewing Co., and Candyland.

The exhibit will open at 5:00 p.m., guests are invited to step into the main floor vault exhibit room to peruse the exhibit. Guests will be invited to check out the upstairs courtroom for a 6 p.m. presentation by Phil Peterson, “A Glimpse of Prohibition’s Northern Moonshine,” followed by book giveaways and a book signing. Wolf beer samples will begin service at 5:45 p.m. in the Courtroom. There will be cabaret tables for standing as well as seating for the presentation.
