Come meet Bruce the Bug Guy! The “BUG Show” is a unique, hands-on, kid-friendly program that allows you to use ALL your senses to learn about the mysterious world of Bugs (insects and their relatives). You’ll get to examine close up, perhaps even handle, an assortment of LIVE arthropods (Mouse-sized Hissing Cockroaches, pencil-sized Millipedes, a hand-sized tarantulas, etc.). You’ll also see unique, weird & wacky exotic preserved insects from around the world and learn about the (sometimes comical) defenses they employ to survive. Perhaps you’ll even sample Bruce’s special bug snacks – called Larvets! Free program; kids welcome!
Known by many as “Bruce the BUG Guy”, Dr. Giebink is an energetic speaker on a wide range of insect-related topics and has published various scientific and popular publications on insects. In 2013, he teamed up with Bill Johnson (photographer extraordinaire) and the Minnesota History Museum to write a wonderfully illustrated book entitled “MN Bug Hunt.”
His insect education program is specifically designed to teach children about insects (and related arthropods) in a fun and ENTO-taining way. It’s a dynamic blend of Show ‘n Tell, storytelling, interesting facts and fun hands-on activities that feature LIVE critters from his arthropod zoo (mouse-size hissing cockroaches, pencil-size millipedes, Rosie the tarantula, etc.).
