Join us for a Celtic Church Street Festival 5:30 – 10:00 PM on Saturday 28th of September 2019.
Parading bagpipers, a blazing bonfire, pub food, and beard and kilt contests will be a few of the highlights at Bagpipes & Bonfires – a Celtic Street Festival — at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Saturday, September 28th. This popular, open to the community event is expected to attract more than 500 people, many in kilts and costume, for a party in a large tent in front of the church at 214 N. Third Street.
The festivities, recommended for adults 21 years and older, will commence at 5:30 PM with a ceremonial lighting of the bonfire and more than 20 members of The Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band of St. Paul, MN parading up and down Third Street. Inside Straight Blues Band with 6 musicians will take to the main stage at 7:00 PM for dancing and merriment until the end of the party at 10:00 PM.
Revelers may purchase pouches of coins to redeem for Lift Bridge Brewery beers, wine and non-alcoholic refreshments, fish and chips form Global Foods, Ellsworth Creamery cheese curds, and Sara’s Tipsy Pies. All are invited to participate in games of skill and style including a wine toss, Hammershlagen, and a Kilt and a Beard Contest for a chance to win prizes. A market shop will sell Celtic-inspired souvenirs to revelers.
The Bagpipes & Bonfires’ Raffle will feature a grand-prize of 2 round-trip airline tickets to Ireland for a 7-night stay. Additional prizes include a romantic stay at the historic Rivertown Inn; a chauffeured ride in a 1952 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith to lunch at the Lowell Inn; a night out on the town with a stay at the beautiful Water Street Inn; a party for six at Acapulco with margaritas and Mexican food; and a traditional Irish quilt. Raffle ticket holders need not be present to win. Tickets cost $10 and will be available at the event and in advance by contacting the church office at 651-439-2609.
