An Evening with Charlie Maguire: The Big Read Kick-off Event

Presented by ArtReach St. Croix at The Phipps Center for the Arts

Help us kick-off The Big Read in the St. Croix Valley with An Evening with Charlie Maguire. Inspired by the themes of The Grapes of Wrath, Maguire will sing songs of the era including dipping into the Ballad of Tom Joad.

“Charlie Maguire is something of a legend in the midwest. He commands a respect far beyond his years with his stories and songs of the heartland of America and the people who live there. This is his second appearance at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and he is sure to bring new songs he’s written in the Woody Guthrie tradition….” — Winnipeg Folk Festival

Maguire was the National Park Service’s first and only “singing ranger” a perfect way to celebrate the park service’s Centennial year.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. The Big Read in the St. Croix Valley is presented by ArtReach St. Croix in conjunction with core program partners Valley Bookseller, Stillwater Public Library, St. Croix Festival Theatre, Little Free Library and library branches located in St. Croix Valley communities between St. Croix Falls, WI and Hastings, MN.
