One Day in Watervale: How to Create and Produce a Radio Play

One Day in Watervale: How to Create and Produce a Radio Play

Presented by StoryArk at ArtReach St. Croix

It is April 9th, 2016 in Watervale, Minnesota. As the sun stretches its fingertips to poke and prod awake the sleepy river that hems in the village, a mist pushes up through the current, pauses briefly above the waters, and then thickens its intentions to a murky vapor that begins to rotate towards Main Street’s brick store fronts.
They are here.
They always have been, but today they will make themselves known.

Help us complete the story. Writers, musicians, singers, sound effect technicians, actors and producers: join The Shire’s Audio Drama Team to develop a fifteen minute radio play that will be aired on Voices in the Valley, the Shire’s Saturday morning half-hour radio program on KLBB. Using the resources offered by the BBC’s Writer’s Lab, we’ll explore the concept of the “theater of the mind” and consider how narrative, dialogue, music and sound effects can be interwoven to create the ultimate experience for the listener. The show will be produced with the help of KLBB Operations Manager Jenna Yaron. “One Day in Watervale” will air on Voices of the Valley on April 9th, 2016. All artistic disciplines are welcome to participate in this collaborative approach.
