Hooked Up: Creating Art with Wool - One Loop at A Time

Presented by Stillwater Public Library at Stillwater Public Library

The Stillwater Public Library Gallery is pleased to present “Hooked Up: Creating Art with Wool – One Loop at A Time,” an exhibit featuring a sampling of styles and projects from St. Croix Valley area rug hookers.

A craft born of necessity, hooked rugs originally provided warmth on the floor and kept drafts from doorways.  Today, rug hooking has evolved from its humble origin to an art form in its own right.  While many contemporary rug hookers keep alive the tradition of primitive motifs, others approach the craft with complete freedom of imagination in design and materials. Hooked pieces have moved up off the floor to become wall hangings, chair pads, pillows, bed rugs, pins, tea cozies, table mats and runners, footstool covers, purses and bags, and whimsical three-dimensional creations.

The show will be in the gallery in January and February.  The artists’ reception will be held on Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 2-4 pm.

The Stillwater Public Library Gallery is free and open to the public during regular library hours.
