Watercolor Skill-Builder 1: Ages 18+

Watercolor Skill-Builder 1: Ages 18+

Presented by The Phipps Center for the Arts at The Phipps Center for the Arts

Watercolor Skill-Builder 1: Ages 18 and older

Strengthen your technical and design skills in watercolor and take your painting to the next level. This class is for beginning to intermediate students who have taken Watercolor Jumpstart or have enough prior experience with watercolor to paint independently on their own projects (even if they don’t always turn out the way you’d hoped). In each class, the instructor will demonstrate techniques and offer fun skill-building activities. With one-on-one coaching, students will apply these skills to their own project(s) over the course of the class. Topics will be adjusted according to the needs of the group and may include: how to plan and design paintings that speak from the heart, how to manage the painting process so you can take difficult steps one at a time and with confidence, how to evaluate and adjust work in progress, as well as technical issues such as reserving/recovering lights; color and color mixing; negative painting; suggesting textures such as hair, trees/foliage, etc.; light, shadow, and form; and how to rescue a painting from many common mistakes. Please bring your painting supplies and any still life items, sketches, photos, or other references you might wish to use to the first class meeting.
