The Sea Wing Disaster of 1890 ranks among the most deadly on America’s inland waterways. Join author Frederick L. Johnson as he details the accident timeline and surrounding events: events leading up to capsizing of the 135-foot steamboat the Sea Wing on Lake Pepin which resulted in the deaths of 98 of its passengers; to the aftermath of the accident and its effects on citizens of Red Wing, MN, and many nearby communities in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Mr. Johnson will read excerpts from his book The Sea Wing Disaster: Tragedy on Lake Pepin and help guests understand the resounding impacts and connections with local history up and down the St. Croix and Mississippi River valleys.
