My work focuses on the Midwest landscape. Having lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin, I have always taken photos of our big beautiful skies to take back home to my studio. Lately, I have been relying on memory and emotion as inspiration for my work. I start with an image or idea, but love to play around with colors and horizon line.

I am currently exploring the color of weather, landscape and natural environments and how they relate to or affect our mood. Are we reacting to these atmospheres? How does it affect the human condition?

I also like to think about our memory with skies, such as the link between the color, the mood, the smells associated with a storm coming.

I play with my technique and process by applying and removing thin veils of color. Working or reworking until I get depth and a certain ambience that rides the line between realistic, abstract and expressionist.
