Barbara Casey’s oil paintings capture the singular essence of a moment. That place. That day. That time. As a professional commercial writer and now an artist, she’s a little obsessed with expressing verbs and adjectives in paint. She applies a similar creative process to both writing and painting: analyze the subject, define the key message, edit extraneous information and make the most important thing memorable. She has lived in communities along the St. Croix River, following a north ward path from Bayport to Stillwater and now Marine on St. Croix. She balances art and writing careers, serving clients around the Twin Cities as a freelance writer and communication strategist. “Painting seems to strengthen the connectivity between the right and left sides of my brain. I love the constant problem solving to convey distance, light and form in order to convey emotion that digs deeper than words”.
