OUR APPROACH A House Unbuilt uses radical listening practices to open more ears and create greater possibility for civil discourse during a time when the United States and the world are greatly divided. Our work focuses primarily in Middle America, from small towns to larger urban centers. We draw on one-on-one relationship-building to cultivate connection across divides, although we are not necessarily seeking agreement. OUR VISION A House Unbuilt believes story can connect us. The understanding of story as a confluence of individual landscapes, voices, and movements, is vital to our approach to both gathering and sharing stories. We perceive story as an embodied object, existing in time, continuous. Story is only ever captured in part and creates great opportunity for empathy. OUR CAUSE The work of A House Unbuilt is research, performance, and activism. These are not mutually exclusive, but rather exist together simultaneously to create a well-balanced purpose and effort. Through listening, we create opportunity for others to reconsider and reimagine the place where they are from, the people that surround them, and the time that they live in.

Gammelgården Museum’s mission is to preserve, present, and promote Swedish immigrant heritage. Our five historic buildings are furnished with artifacts dating back to the 1850’s, when this “Gammel” (old) “gården” (small farm) was settled by the first Swedish immigrants to arrive in Minnesota.

Scandia Heritage Alliance is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that aims to make Scandia a uniquely interesting and vibrant place to live in and visit by preserving and celebrating our rich history, culture, arts, and rural character. The following values guide our work: SENSE OF PLACE: We embrace the charming, unique character of our community, recognizing its roots as Minnesota’s first Swedish settlement and a historic center of mercantile business and agriculture on the St. Croix River. PRESERVATION: We believe that preserving and renovating our historic resources enhances our community character, links us to our roots, and creates a more vibrant community. COLLABORATION: We believe that working together with groups and individuals who share similar values and goals is essential to achieving our mission. INCLUSION: We believe that bringing residents together and tapping into their inherent talents will enhance our sense of shared community. ADVOCACY: We will advocate for our goals at every level of government and within our community, becoming a strong voice for our mission to make Scandia a uniquely interesting and vibrant place to live and visit.

Tropical Wings is the official friends group of the National Parks Service Sister Parks agreement involving 14 National Parks in the upper midwest and 7 National Parks on Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula.  This sister parks partnership revolves around the welfare of the neotropical migratory birds shared between the upper midwest and Costa Rica.  Tropical Wings is a 501.c3 non-profit, membership organization that focuses on education and habitat restoration to benefit migratory birds.  We celebrate the return of our migratory birds the second weekend in May each year with an event at the Phipps Center for the Arts, we also bring adults down to Costa Rica each year to raise funds for habitat conservation in the St. Croix Watershed and on the Osa Peninsula.  Each fall we bid farewell to our birds with a Fall Migration Celebration held on the second Saturday of September.  Tropical Wings has developed curriculum for schools on migratory birds and habitat conservation, and grants funds to organizations in the St. Croix watershed for habitat restoration projects.  They also sponsor a student art show each spring in conjunction with the spring Bird Migration Celebration.
