Watercolor Skies Workshop

One of the toughest subjects in watercolor can be the complex layers of color and soft edges in those dramatic skies that give a landscape painting atmosphere. It’s great if you have the assurance and eye to quickly get it all down in one fast wash, but most of us find a complicated sunset or a dramatic thunderstorm hard to capture all in one go. But, the good new is, you don’t have to! It’s possible to build up your skies in small, managable steps, and still keep that soft, atmospheric, wet-in-wet look. Ans watercolor is actually uniquely suited to beautiful sky effects, due to its fluidity and soft edges. Learn how to gradually build up intense and complex color, and create a variety of clouds, mist, fog, and precipitation without streaks, blotched, or hard edges.

Bring a brown bag lunch and your watercolor supplies, plus at least 3 full sheets of professional-quality watercolor paper and two painting supports for the size you prefer to work (at least quarter-sheet size; half-sheet, or full sheet is better. The techniques are easier to learn on larger pieces.)Ask for a suggested supply list upon enrollment.
