Intro to Home-Perfumery Workshop

Participants will examine (smell) the individual ingredients of a scent–in–progress and be able to take samples of the final product home at the workshop’s conclusion. We will also discuss “tinctures” and consider some possibilities for how they are made. We will sample a series of one–off tincture experiments made by the artists before and during their time working at Franconia, some of which will be made using raw materials found on site. The workshop will discuss basic materials and supplies needed to get started and best–practices for casually working on your own to create custom scents. If time allows, the class will collect materials from the park to make their own tinctures.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Franconia will ensure all workshops are safe and socially-distanced. Participants will be required to wear masks.
About the Artists
Lee Noble is an artist and composer working in between sound, collage, and multimedia. His work is concerned with the exponential accumulation of information in the internet age and the bleeding together of various media forms and cultural expressions. He received an MFA from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2020.
Emma Beatrez is a transdisciplinary artist from Minnesota. They graduated from Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 2020 with a MFA in Interdisciplinary studio art. Beatrez received their BFA with an emphasis in oil painting at North Dakota State University in 2018. Their recent work deals with ritual, body, proxemics, desire, and simulation through material, light, sound, and scent explorations.
