In the Stillwater Public Library’s gallery through September, view a history of works by artist Erik Sletten. Gallery is open during library hours.
“This retrospective covers more than 28 years of my professional work as an artist. I have a love for architecture, cars, movies, and so much more. Many of these pieces are on loan from clients and collectors of my art, as well as works from my personal collection. I have been a resident of Stillwater for my entire career and much of my art portrays my visions of my hometown,” explains Sletten.
For nearly 30 years, Sletten has been productive as a painter using oil and acrylics. The art he creates is rendered in a pop-expressionistic manner.
Sletten notes, “My work is colorful and happy, seeking to remind us that there are good things in the world…the goodness in life. In painting, I create a narrative in which common objects are brought to life, inspiring a sense of joy. Fracturing perspective creates a whimsical feel, and I use a wrapped canvas so the image can continue around the edges of the piece. Creating a personal work of art is my response to an individual sharing the essence of their life. Painting becomes an artistic expression of that life, and also represents a moment in time.”
