12th Annual St Croix River Road Ramble

Rural autumn celebration along the oldest road in NW Wisconsin — The St CroixFalls to Grantsburg WI River Road and Hwy 87.  Nearly 30 stops for buying, eating, looking in the beautiful northern St Croix Valley.  Only 45 minutes from the Twin Cities.  Sales, Farm Markets, crafts, art, wine, food, and beautiful fall color with the maple trees along the way.

The River Road was an Indian trail when fur traders first came in 1831 and established a trading post on the St Croix River at Wolf Creek.  When logging began in 1837, the River Road was the main route from the falls at St CroixFalls to the vast white pine forests above.  Stopping places and farms to support the loggers sprang up along the way.  By the 1850s it was a Wisconsin State Road.

Still completely rural in nature, with untouched woods along the Scenic St Croix River, pastoral farms and small towns, churches, completely removed from the bustle of the nearby Twin Cities.
