Exploring Our Spirituality: A Retrospective Exhibit of the Jewish Women Artists’ Circle
The artists’ circle was launched in 2005 with a grant from Rimon, the Monnesota Jewish Arts Council, an initiative of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. The group is unusual in bringing together study and art. The artists study Jewish and spiritual themes with scholats in the community and create artworks inspired by their learning. This exhibit will cover 10 years of their spiritual journey. Using diverse media, they have created art about healing the world and healing oneself, expieriencing daily prayer, breath-of-life, hidden meanings, yearning for God, the creation of light and earth, and the tree of knowledge.
The participating artist are Sandra Baron, Jane Bassuk, Rachel Breen, Sandra Brick, Gloria Cooper, Lucy Rose Fischer, Bette Globus Goodman, Renanah (Rani) Halpern, Joyce Lyon, Lynda Monick-Isenberg, Aimee Orkin, Paula Leiter Pergament, Dianne Silverman, Anita White, and Rochelle Woldorsky.

Sarah Dudgeon – MAKE FUNCTIONAL: Hand Created Wood Fired Ceramics in the Atrium Gallery
Northern Clay Center (NCC) and The Phipps join forces on an ongoing partnership aimed at increasing the profile of ceramic artists located throughout the lower St. Croix Valley watershed. Sarah Dudgeon of Amery, WI, is a potter. She received her BA in Studio Arts from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse in 1996. After an apprenticeship at Eckels Pottery in Bayfield, WI, she developed the pottery program for and taught at the Minnesota River School, Burnsville, MN. In 2001, she established her home, studio, and classroom in an old (1911) general store near Amery, now known as The Potter’s House. Dudgeon has led workshops at Edina Art Center, Edina, MN; Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Anoka, MN; and Hayward College, Clyde, NC. Her wood-fired ceramics are influenced and inspired by textiles, nature, shadows, and all of the studio potters in our area. “As a potter, I am able to express my perception of beauty in functional forms that others may use and enjoy in their daily lives. It encourages me to know that forms created by my hands are used by the hands of others. The ever-changing complex process of clay is appealing and challenges me. While my work is functional, I am equally lured to forms that are aesthetically interesting and visually attractive. In my glazing process I use a wax resist technique to create repeating patterns. The process of wood firing leaves the mark of the flame on each pot and makes every pot different and unique. Every time the door of the kiln is opened, new surprises await anxious hands.”
